Thassos is the Diamond of the Marble World
Learn about the exclusivity of Thassos world wide and how its grading works
Thassos is used in some of the most prestige and luxurious buildings in the world
Famous for its pure snow white appearance and being the purest white stone in the world, Thassos white marble is found in the most exclusive and high end places around the world. From the largest place of worship at the grand mosque in Mecca Medina in Saudi Arabia to government buildings such as the Conference Hall of Tashkent in Uzbekistan, Thassos marble has a reputation that’s unmatched. We encourage you to follow this link as reference to the stones use and the benefits used for its natural characteristics. Due to its pure white appearance and high reflection of light, Thassos has a characteristic of having one of lowest heat absorbance of all natural stones.
One of the most difficult marbles in the world to extract
Coming by high grade selection of this material is extremely difficult. A fraction of a fraction of the quarry is capable of delivering the purest Thassos, making its supply world wide very limited. It shares the same challenges of finding a diamond. Hence not all Thassos marble is created equal; the stone is categorized by industry standard in selections of A to A1 – A3 to commercial (with A being the highest grade with the least imperfections/most pure variation and A3 being the lowest quality before the commercial standard). We at Mega Marble took this one step further and added an extra selection to distinguish the best from the best. Our AE selection stands for “A Extra” and is a grade higher than A. This is not a shift of grades, the AE is truly the cleanest selection of Thassos and is above any grade of A you will find anywhere.
